Edinburgh Shambhala Meditation Group

Welcome!

Would you like to learn to meditate, to reduce your stress levels, or to increase your sense of space, relaxation, flexibility and joy in your life ? Or do you already practice meditation but would like to sit with a group, or to meet other like-minded people ? Then join us on Monday evenings at 6:30pm for meditation, talks and discussion. For more details on our programme please go to our calendar.

Shambhala Buddhism is an international community of practitioners of meditation founded by the late Tibetan meditation master, Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, and now under the guidance of his son, Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche. His student Pema Chodron has written several popular books about meditation that are very accessible and down-to-earth, while at the same time insightful and inspiring.

The Edinburgh Shambhala Meditation Group offers a place to practice sitting meditation, courses and weekend programmes in Shambhala Buddhism and the meditative arts, and instruction both for newcomers and more advanced students.
We meet every Monday in the Theosophical Society (Room Two) for sitting and walking meditation, alternating each week between “just sitting” and a talk or discussion.

Individual meditation instruction is available free of charge. If you have your own meditation cushion please feel free to bring it since at present we have a limited number of cushions. Please note there is a suggested donation of £3-£5 per evening to help cover the cost of renting the space. We also have a small library of books on Shambhala and Buddhism that are available for loan to regular participants, and some books available for purchase.

The Edinburgh Group is also a link to the other Shambhala Groups, Centres and Retreat facilities in the UK and worldwide. These provide opportunities for further practice and study allowing people to explore the path of meditation and how it relates to their life. Check the link at the top of the page (Find a Centre) for details of other groups in the UK. Follow the links on the left side to Shambhala Europe and Shambhala International to see what is offered elsewhere.
